A picture is worth a thousand words or so the saying goes. I am an avid photographer and love capturing my kids doing everything from the everyday to the extrordinary. From their first steps to our family vacations and every day in between my camera is always within arm’s reach.
I am always in search of new and clever ways to display my photos; ways that really let my pictures do the talking and the images I have captured be the stars. Imagekind’s Story Frames do just that. You can easily create a simple display that tells your family’s story, whatever that may be. (more…)
When it comes to entertaining and educational DVDs for your kids there are thousands of choices. Braincandy, pardon the pun, is the brainchild of two Seattle parents. They’ve created a series of five DVDs that help your child explore their senses. With the help of “Bruce the Brain” your child gets to hear, smell, see, taste, and touch their world.
The brightly colored (and eco-friendly) packages had my kids attention from the minute they landed on the kitchen table. My two year old was hopping up and down saying “Movie!, Movie!” I swear she doesn’t see as much TV as her reaction may imply. (more…)
As a mother of a two year old and four year old I am in the constant pursuit of family friendly places to dine. Most of the time this exasperated, over-worked momma prefers to eat at home in the privacy of her own kitchen where, when asparasgus is not well-recieved, no other diner is disturbed by large quantities of the vegetable being hurled in their direction. That being said, Knoxville is home to many unique eateries that are the perfect place to share with your family. (more…)
My name is Caroline and my mother writes romance novels. This isn’t the beginning of a Daughters Anonymous speech, but rather an honest admission of fact. My former school-teaching, preacher’s wife of a mother has published dozens of books over the last decade. We’re not talking about the sweet and touching romance novels, but rather the spicy kind you have to store on a fireproof shelf for fear that they will send your bookcase up in a blaze of passion.
I’ve gotten a lot of flack over the years for my mother’s career of choice. Apparently once you have kids and pass the age of 40 you are no longer supposed to think about sex, have sex, or worse (gasp!) actually write about it. Why we, the younger generation, feel the need to monopolize sex is beyond me. Seems we all deserve to get in on the action. (more…)
Bob the Builder is going on site in his new DVD “Roads and Bridges.” Unfortunately the new flick falls flatter than a stretch of pavement after Roley comes by. The DVD starts out with an introduction to all Bob’s favorite friends, the ones your children know and love. Unfortunately that’s about the only time you will see them in the movie. Bob goes “on-site” by logging on to his computer to see how a real-life road is made. It starts from the very beginning and takes you all the way to completion.
My four year old kept asking “Mom, when is it going to go back to Bob the Builder?” The video of the construction site isn’t the best. It is sometimes out of focus and down right boring. (more…)
