The Review:
Nellie’s™ Dryerballs ™
Budget or Splurge Item: Budget $19.99 (plus shipping) for this reusable product
Family Friendly (safe for the family, pets, and environment) product: Yes!! You can’t get more family friendly than this product! Non-toxic, allergy free and reusable!
Truth in Advertising: A simple product that works just like it says it will? Can it be? My answer is yes! These two dryerballs™ look much like dog toys, yet fluff up the laundry and take the wrinkles out of clothes superbly! Without using fabric softener in the washer, nor a dryer sheet in my dryer, my clothes came out looking just terrific, and without the harmful chemicals found in popular softeners. I noticed that if I kept my dryer reasonably full (without overstuffing it) this product worked just as it claimed. Just simply place both the balls into the dryer with your freshly washed laundry. Keep in mind, if you are used to using chemical fabric softeners you will not get the same fragrance or softness that you are accustomed to, however, you may want to check the ingredients of these products and as to whether they are safe for your family to use. For more information, check out this: www.nontoxic.com/nontoxic/
Practicality and Versatility: I used the dryerballs™ with towels, sheets and clothing with great results.
Any town or Specialty product: This product can be found on the website: nellieslaundry.com
From one Clever Parent to another: In my opinion, if you are looking for a environmentally safe, family and budget friendly, try this out!
Seal of Approval: AWARDED!

The Review:
Nellie’s™ Laundry Nuggets™
Budget or Splurge Item: Slight Splurge at $16.99 for 60 nuggets (plus shipping) I nugget per laundry load. Save a little money and purchase both the nuggets and dryerballs for $29.99 (plus shipping) http://www.nellieslaundry.com/Order-Form.html As with many eco-friendly products, you will find that this product costs more than the toxic competition, and perhaps more than some other eco-friendly products. However, if the product works as well as it claims, it may be worth the extra money!
Family Friendly (safe for the family, pets, and environment) product: Yes! This product is biodegradable, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic. This product contains coconut-oil based ingredients, soda ash, sodium silicate and MonoSol film. For more information check out: www.nellieslaundry.com/Non-Toxic.html
Truth in Advertising: Another product that does exactly what it claims! Simply place one dissolving nugget into the washer with your clothes and the clothes come out clean and without residue. This product worked very well in hot and cold water; with colors, whites, towels and sheets.
Practicality and Versatility: I used the Laundry Nuggets™ with towels, sheets and clothing with great results.
Any town or Specialty product: This product can be found on the website: nellieslaundry.com

Hi, just located your site recently and subscribed. I was curious about a product made from coconut oil being hypoallergenic when many people are allergic to coconuts. Does the label address that issue at all? Thanks!

Thanks so much for your question, Amy!!
Hypoallergenic does not mean allergy-free, rather hypo actually comes from a word meaning “less than.” In order for a product to be deemed hypoallergenic it must prove to be a lesser threat to allergic side effects. From what I could find while researching this, coconut oil (the ingredient) is considered hypoallergenic – cooking, cleaning, skin care, etc.
I checked on the label and the website and did not find anything addressing coconut oil (other than listing it as an ingredient). When doing a search on the internet I did discover many other environmentally friendly, natural & hypoallergenic products using coconut oil in their ingredient lists. I could not find any specific information regarding any of these products and coconut-oil allergies.
I wish I could be more help. Here is the contact information for Nellie’s Laundry: Call Toll Free 1.888.984.7471 or Email info@nellieslaundry.com
Thank you, Amy, for taking the time to add your clever comment! Welcome to Clever Parents!

Betsy,
Thanks so much for taking the time to do the research on that! And I’m pleased to have a new piece of trivia in my head. :D I love to bug people with my little smatterings of knowledge here and there. I was under the impression that hypoallergenic meant completely free of allergy-causing ingredients. Which, in today’s day and age, isn’t really possible, is it? I know of a young lady who is allergic to kiwi, which was new to me.
