bulldogagain.jpgTragically hip and painfully cool. No, it’s not a documentary about a fast living young rocker who dies before his time, it’s the tagline for a new online children’s clothing store, Rock’n Sprouts.

Like other Clever Parents that we’ve featured, Tonya Bowers took a passion and made it into a business that lets her stay home with her kids. Rock’n Sprouts sells designer clothing for boys and girls online. Though Rock’n Sprouts has only been opened a short time, you can rest assured, before an item is put up for sale, it must pass the ‘Tragically hip and painfully cool’ (THPC) test.

lilPistolgirl02.jpgWhat’s that you ask? It means that Tonya feels the family just must have it and her oldest son and his friends give it the ‘cool’ endorsement. While the process might not sound scientific, the results speak for themselves. Currently the site features wares from 18 designers, though that number fluctuates based on the THPC factor. In selecting new designers, Tonya focuses on style and the statement that the clothes make, while also giving equal weight to the clothes softness.

As Tonya says, ‘We want the kids to make a statement in what they wear, but if it’s not comfy the kids are not going to want to wear it.’ Clothes from Small Audience and Inky Dink are big sellers now, but Tonya adds that customers ought to check back often since Tragically Hip and Painfully Cool is an always evolving concept…
