By the age of three, many children enter a phase of discovery where they delight in doing things on their own. One task that ellicits a great sense of accomplishment is the ability to dress oneself. There’s nothing quite like that look of pride on a child’s face when he comes into a room fully dressed in the outfit of his choosing. Now children can complete their own ensembles with Myself Belts – the belt children can fasten themselves.
Given the nature of children’s clothing sizing, belts can be a crucial accessory. In non-adjustable waist pants, for instance, slimmer children tend to swim in their clothes which necessitates a belt. But belts can be tricky for little ones. Talia Goldfarb found that when her son became potty-trained, his pants kept stretching at the waistband from being repeatedly pulled down. When Talia looked for a self-fastening belt for her child she had trouble finding one so she joined forces with her sister and the duo started a business: Myself Belts.
The belts, which retail for about $15, come in 24 fun styles ranging from hearts, flowers and pink courdoroy for girls to firetrucks, cars and construction vehicles for boys. The belts are also available in all-occasion brown and black leather.
To secure the belt, one end snaps around the front belt loop on a child’s pants (Velcro facing out) and the rest of the belt goes through the pant loops. Using a single hand, a child can fasten the Velcro closure from the free end of the belt to the attached piece.
