Clever Parents is excited to introduce a new column, The Connected Parent, written by Patty Wipfler, the founder of the Parents Leadership Institute (PLI). (Note: PLI recently changed its name to Hand in Hand.)

Patty’s professional career has centered on teaching and supporting parents. She has been a teacher, school founder, and non-profit director. Over the years, Patty’s ideas about parenting formulated into an approach she dubbed Parenting by Connection. Hand in Hand was founded to support Parenting by Connection which emphasizes respect, listening, leadership development and the importance of interpersonal connections.

In support of Parenting by Connection, Hand in Hand offers classes, courses and talks as well as books, CDs and a newsletter for parents. Recently Hand in Hand launched the Parent Consulting Service which matches parents with an experienced parent consultant for one on one counseling in person or over the phone. For more information, check out Parenting Consulting Service.

In recognition of the PLI’s work, the National Parenting Publication Awards (NAPPA) awarded PLI’s Listening to Children six-booklet set the 2006 Gold Award in the Parenting Resources category.
