Head outside in beautiful weather and visit one of Raleigh’s many wonderful parks. A few of our favorites are:
- Banbury. Tucked between Glenwood and Wade near Cantebury, this park has swings, a sandbox, and a fun climbing and sliding play set. It’s next to a hill and a soccer field - perfect for children who like to run and run and run. 1700 Banbury Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
- Laurel Hills. The best thing about Laurel Hills is its gigantic wooden structure that kids can climb up, down and through. Slides, bouncing bridges, and tires are a few of the many highlights of this great play set. 3808 Edwards Mill Road, Raleigh, NC 27612, Phone: 919-420-2383.
- North Hills. Hidden behind a baseball field off of Currituck, this park has two different playground structures, a covered picnic area and a large sandbox with toys. The playground base is wood chips, which beats sand if your toes are exposed. 100 Chowan Circle, Raleigh, NC 27609, Phone: 919-870-2880
- Pullen. The king of all the Raleigh parks - did you know Pullen once included a petting zoo for children? Pullen is a great spot for picnics, feeding ducks, walking and playing. There are three separate playgrounds suited for younger and older children. For the price of $1 per person (over 14 months) ride the carrousel ride, take a ride around the park on the train, little ones can even ride small boats on a circular covered water track. Rent a pavilion for your next birthday party. 520 Ashe Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27606, Phone: 919-831-6468
- Roanoke. Hidden away in Five Points, this shaded gem boasts ride-on toys, slides for the very young, swings, a jungle gym, and a basketball court. 2 picnic tables (one with a pavillion). 1500 Cherokee Drive, Raleigh, NC 27608.
- Shelley Lake / Sertoma. Bring a stroller and take a walk around Shelley Lake, then feed the ducks and seagulls that gather near the start of the loop. Settle into a picnic table for lunch and let the kids free on the playground. There is an area for younger children and one for older children as well as baby and big kid swings. The play set for older children boasts a climbing wall! Don’t forget to bring sunscreen - there’s not much shade to be found here. 1400 W. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27612, Phone: 919-420-2331
