Tips for Avoiding Clutter Build-UpWe have spent the month working on getting a filing system, but now we need to work on how not to let clutter build up in the first place.
- Identify Problem Areas and Source of Clutter. First you need to see where you find paper clutter accumulating. Next, determine what papers consists of this clutter. For me, I found that the clutter was mostly my daughter’s school papers. What works best is I have a basket on top of the fridge to put papers that I don’t want to throw away. I am also quite critical of what I keep, and throw away most everything (much to my daughter’s chagrin). Every month I go through this basket and toss some but the rest I add to the bin I have of her art projects. Read the rest »

Most of us are extremely busy and plan our meals on the fly. Wouldn’t you love to be able to save yourself time and money? Studies show that if you plan your meals ahead of time, you will save close to 30% on your grocery bill. Planning ahead eliminates impulse buys at the grocery store. As I created Emily’s Sample Monthly Meal Plan for you, I was watching a favorite TV show that I taped earlier in the week. It took me only 20 minutes to plan the meals and a little less than 5 minutes to compile a list of groceries that I didn’t have on hand. So, in a matter of 25 minutes, I planned a month’s worth of meals, watched a TV show, and enjoyed skimming two magazines which I can’t wait to READ. I hope you have the same success!! Happy Planning!! Read the rest »

Name: Spice Street
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Rating: 2 and ½ stars
I really wanted to like Spice Street. Perhaps because it has such great ambiance; perhaps because it is one of Giorgios Bakatsias’s restaurants which are usually excellent; perhaps because I like cooking with a lot of spices and the name speaks to me. Regardless, I had high hopes and left disappointed. Read the rest »

Death prompts renewed search for recalled Aspen 3 in 1 Cribs with Graco logos.
After the death of a 19-month baby in Myrtle Creek, Ore., the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Simplicity Inc., of Reading Pa., renew search for recalled Aspen 3 in 1 Cribs with Graco logos, according to the CPSC.
The child died on January 6, 2006, after two of the mattress support slats came out of his recalled crib. He became entrapped between the mattress and the footboard of the crib and suffocated, according to the CPSC.
CPSC and Simplicity Inc. announced the recall of about 104,000 Aspen 3 in 1 Cribs on December 21, 2005. The recall was conducted because the screws on the wooden mattress supports can come loose, allowing a portion of the mattress to fall. This poses a suffocation hazard to young children who can slide down and become entrapped between the unsupported mattress and end of the crib, according to the CPSC.
The recalled cribs were sold in department and children’s product stores from August 2003 through May 2005 for about $130.
