Your Clutter Busting Challenge for the week of January 16th is to create a Chore Checklist:

If you find yourself making daily to-do lists, this next challenge is essential!

  1. Create your list. Take a few minutes and write down everything that needs to get done in your house per week. Think of everything; dust, sweep, clean out the car, watering plants, going to the library, etc. etc.
  2. Organize your list into a one-page spreadsheet. I organize it by rooms, but do your checklist however you see fit.
  3. Add to your manual. Print your list, three-hole punch it, and place into your Household Manual.

weekly-checklist-reduced.jpgI have attached a copy of my household chore list so you can see an example, but remember that everyone’s checklist will certainly be different!! Throughout the week as a job gets done, check it off! Designate children to have a different color highlighter marker, and highlight certain jobs for them to complete and check off as well. Many of these jobs take literally minutes, but left undone causes undo stress to you, your entire family and clutters up your precious family time!

    Hey there!

Your first step is to be honest with yourself and the amount of time you have. For me, I find it easier to break the tasks up throughout the week. I don’t actually enjoy cleaning all that much, so I like to get it done first thing in the morning.

My biggest suggestion is to create a schedule that is not too rigid and is something that you can actually maintain, or you are bound to get discouraged. I have found that if I keep up on the household tasks on a consistent basis, the house is actually quite simple to clean, and does not take that long. I personally do not like to spend more than 1 hour a day cleaning.

Here are some suggestions to make your schedule work:

    Use a timer

Watch the distractions – don’t answer the phone and keep the television off

    Put on upbeat music

Create a cleaning caddy so everything is easy to grab
    when needed

Create a schedule to fit your personality – For example, if you are a morning person, plan to tackle your cleaning first thing in the morning

Do the hardest job first (or the least enjoyable) – if you don’t, you may keep doing the easy jobs and continue procrastinating the least liked jobs

Thanks so much for your question! Good luck coming up with a chore list that works for you :)
