This 4th of July holiday while you are celebrating our nation’s independence, ponder the things that have gained ownership over your life. There is a reason we have too much clutter. Simply stated, it is because… Read more. There will be many resolutions this New Years. Resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, and start a new career are just a few. Did you know that becoming organized could help you achieve nearly all your goals and dreams for yourself? I am going to list the steps to start controlling the clutter in your life. Clutter can take many forms and only one of them is material. In addition we clutter up our time and our mind. As you read through the following steps, you may see examples of stumbling blocks that you have put on the pathway to becoming clutter controlled in the past in your own life. This is the year to make these small changes, which will have a huge impact not only on your life, but also on the life of the ones that you love.
1. Stop with the blame and guilt- Often we live our lives out of fear, guilt, blame, and shame. For 2007 try very hard to realize that you cannot control what you did yesterday, but you most certainly can change your tomorrow. If you spent more than you should of at Christmas, now is not the time to beat yourself up!
2. It is not about perfection! There is a reason why I did not title this “…Become Clutter Free in 2007” because the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of us will always have some type of clutter. Your goal should be to simply get your clutter under control. It is not about owning things; rather it is about not allowing things to own you. If you set your goals to unreachable heights you will only be left disappointed in the end. Be realistic with what you can and cannot do and what you can and cannot control. So often we perceive others to have a tighter grasp on their life than we have on our own, and we use it as a way to put ourselves down. Be the best person that you can be today, that is all that any of us can really do. Read the rest »

When I was in college, I strangely never kept an day planner. I was able to keep my day to day assignments and to-dos in my head and surprisingly, I was never late and almost never forgot an assignment. I used to pride on my super memory skills that seemed immune to my weekend antics.
So cheap beer and late nights didn’t do it but Mommyhood did, as it’s either killed off or dulled those brain cells beyond any means of functioning. These days I find myself doing a double take to the back seat in the car just to make sure I have both kids in place and didn’t leave one of them in a shopping cart somewhere two stores back. Needless to say, remembering a specific appointment or place I have to be is well beyond this Mom’s current brain capacity. Read the rest »

So, here we find ourselves at the end of our Christmas Holiday. Our live trees are starting to look a bit on the dry and crispy side and our living rooms look like a paper and toy bomb exploded! There are returns to make, clothes to wash, tags to cut, and a billion twist ties to find in the carpet before we even attempt to run the vacuum.
Take a few moments this week to reflect on what you enjoyed about this Christmas season and what did not work out so well. Try to think of ways that you can make next Christmas easier! If you normally keep your Christmas list on the computer, believe it or not, I am going to tell you to start yours for next year!! Print it out (or write it out) and keep it folded in your wallet for whenever you are out shopping throughout the year! The absolute best time to shop for Christmas is now upon us as nearly everything is at least 75% off!! It’s a great time to stock up on various gifts like winter pajamas, sweaters, scarves and ornaments. Read the rest »
